When you work with crystals you develop a special relationship with them. There is no secret that crystals carry energy as they come from the earth. Crystals have their own personality and when you choose a crystal for yourself is like choosing a friend.
Choosing crystals for yourself might be easier than you thought. You might have already done it in the past when you bought a certain crystal without knowing exactly why.
However, as simple as it sounds, there are a couple of things to consider when you choose a new crystal for yourself.
1. Crystals that you like
Probably you like the colour, the shape, the texture or shine of a specific crystal or the patterns that it holds. This is a perfect example of choosing the crystals the right way – because you like them. You will not go wrong with this method, however you need to be careful as sometime the crystal shopping enthusiasm can make you buy way more crystals that you intended to.
To avoid going crazy about your crystal shopping, remember a simple rule: less is more.
2. Crystals that speak to you
Perhaps you prefer visiting a physical shop or buying online, the process is the same. Some crystals will catch your attention no matter if you actually intended to buy a different crystal.
The main rule: simply buy it.
Why? Because a crystal that catches your attention is a crystal that can help you with a particular issue you’re going through at that particular moment. Sometimes it can be even something you were never aware of needing help, and carrying or meditating with that crystal it will help you process whatever is going on at a subconscious level.
3. Crystals that feel good
If you are a sensitive person like I am, and you can feel the energy with your hands, when you go crystal shopping simply use your palms to feel the energy of different crystals and choose the one that feels good: some crystals will give you a magnetic feel as you are physically drawn to them, others will give you tingling or other physical sensations sensation such as warmth or cold in your hand.
4. Crystals that you dislike
I know this perhaps sounds a bit weird to actually buy a crystal that you don’t like or you strongly dislike. A crystal that you don’t like acts like a sign for you: it brings into your awareness that you need to pay attention, that something is going on. I strongly encourage you to buy crystals you dislike then attune to them to find out what is that you need to know.
5. Premonitory crystals
These are crystals that you end up buying without any specific reason, you feel attracted to them and feel you have to buy them, but you cannot make a sense why just yet. Premonitory crystals enter your life to help you with a future circumstance that did not yet appear. For example, you might be attracted to an amethyst crystal just to find after a week that you need to make an important decision, or a turquoise crystal as soon you’ll find that you need to go in an unexpected work trip.
And what if you like two crystals of the same variety, what do you do?
Sometimes you feel drawn to a couple of crystals – even from the same family or different families. How do you decide which one is right for you?
A simple technique is to hold each crystal in your hand and compare how they feel. Close your eyes and feel the energy of each crystal and notice which one feels right to you. Maybe notice the weight, how it feels on your palm, a crystal might feel heavier and another one lighter, a crystal might feel warm and another one cold. Which one do you like the most?
If you have more than two crystals to choose from, just repeat the process with pairs of two, choosing one crystal then repeat until you are left with only one crystal for yourself.
